Quick and Pretty Wall Art

We have lived in this humble little abode almost a year.  Albeit, it was a frantic move when we arrived, so decorating took the backburner for awhile.  We have the standard limitations that come with renting: no painting, no permanent holes in the walls, no ripping up the carpet that was laid in 1998.  So, like many renters, we have to deal with the downsides to living in someone else's townhouse.  Adding personality to dingy walls is a definite issue.  I have worked and reworked the large flat wall in our living space, trying desperately to give it character.

Last summer, I decided that I loved Scandinavian design elements and minimalism.  This itself is a laughable phrase.  I am the anti-minimalist at heart.  The clutterist?  For whatever reason, I decided that there was nothing more beautiful in the world than black and white and minimal all over.  So, I decorated the wall with a series of upcycled black mismatched frames and some various odd pieces that I'd both made and collected.  At the time, I really liked the way it turned out.  It gave me that clean sensation that I was craving.  Now, I just think it looks bleak.  Since I cannot throw paint at the wall in my own ode to Jackson Pollock, I had to find another way to infuse it with color (though, honestly, I'd rather manically throw paint at the wall).

Several months ago (yes, there is much time travel in this vignette), I was at Michael's (the store, not a person) and happened across some really cool DIY art collections by Me & My Big Ideas.  I found these in the scrapbooking section, though for the life of me I cannot remember if they were a clearance item or not.  These are the coolest things.  They are basically smooth printed cardstock with phrases and pictures that were intended to be framed and used together as an 'art collection'.  There were several different themes to choose from; I choose the American Sweetheart theme.   I didn't realize it at the time I purchased them, but they were the perfect thing to spruce up my bleak wall.  Check out my small-but-satisfying wall revamp!

This is the kit that I used:

Before: Bleak and White

After: Much happier with color!  (Also, terrible lighting)

This is my favorite little spot on the wall.  I like the gold mason jar
and the tissue paper flowers!

I love this quote.  And the loopy writing is so girly and pretty.

All in all, it took me about 20 minutes or so to cut the pictures to fit and to rehang them on the walls.  I love how they all just go together so effortlessly without being too deliberately matchy-matchy.  I found them online here, if you'd like to check them out for yourself.  Also, you can't beat an entire gallery wall for under $20!
